What we can work on.

01Comprehension and vocabulary in context+

Separate what the text states from what can reasonably be inferred. Use the surrounding sentence to test the meaning of an unfamiliar word.

02Grammar, sentences and editing+

Identify how sentence parts relate, then edit for agreement, tense, punctuation and clarity without changing the intended meaning.

03Writing purpose, structure and style+

Plan for an audience and purpose. Organise each paragraph around a clear idea, then revise transitions and word choice.

04Literature, evidence and interpretation+

Make a specific interpretation, choose relevant textual evidence and explain how that evidence supports the point.

↳

When extra support could help

The learner understands a passage but struggles to justify an answer or organise a written response.

Watch for: Quoting the text without explaining how the evidence answers the question.

A useful sign of progress: The learner can build a clear point, support it and explain the connection in their own words.
