Mathematical Literacystarts making sense.
Make sense of the numbers in everyday decisions: costs, measurements, maps and information.

A CLOSER LOOK
What we can work on.
Click a topic to see a practical learning focus. We select the right depth for the learner, rather than treating every grade the same.
01Budgets, tariffs and percentage change+
Separate income, expenses and balances. Compare tariffs using the same usage, and distinguish percentage increase from the final amount.
02Measurement, area and volume+
Choose the required formula and convert units before substitution. Check the difference between material needed for a surface and capacity inside a container.
03Maps, plans, scale and time+
Translate between a real distance and its representation. Work through scale, direction, travel time and practical constraints.
04Data tables, graphs and probability+
Identify what the axes, labels and sample actually represent. Read values accurately and explain a conclusion in its real-life context.
When extra support could help
Questions feel manageable until a table, tariff or unit conversion is introduced.
Watch for: Calculating the discount correctly but giving it as the amount payable.
A useful sign of progress: The learner can select relevant information from a realistic document and justify the answer with units.
THE 3-QUESTION CHECK
Find your next “aha”.
Choose an answer, check the reasoning, then try again. Mistakes are useful information.
- Identify the information that matters
- Convert units accurately
- Explain the practical meaning of a result
A small practice snapshot, not a formal assessment or predicted school mark.
